A Lighter Look into the New Year
Dear Parishioners, welcome to the 2026! Perhaps you recall that the word January has its roots in the name of a two-headed god of ancient Rome. One head of Januarius looks forward and the other backward. As we begin a new year, it's good to consider this forward and backward perspective. It helps us learn from the past and look to the future with, hopefully, greater wisdom, knowledge, and charity.
The Lord is with us on the journey into the future whatever our circumstances. What He desires for us is nothing less than the fullness of life (Jn 10:10). Following His teachings and sharing in the grace of the sacraments of the
Church help us attain this abundant life. It isn't the "abundant life" of the glamourous, super wealthy, or trendy. It is richer because it is rooted in the God of the ages who made us and wants what is best for us.
Let's be ready to explore new territories in our walk with Jesus in this new year. Turn to the Lord, turn to Our Lady, turn to the saints for help to shed old, tired ways that simply don't serve any more. Congratulate yourself on the small steps taken in the right direction. Don't be too hard on yourself when you regress a bit. Just get back on that horse!
Let's all resolve to be kinder in this new year. It seems the Lord is giving us more opportunities than ever to show kindness! When the impulse is to anger, let's try restraint. When the impulse is to bad-mouth the other, let's try silence or even a word of understanding. A little kindness in Jesus' name goes a long way. Let's pray for each other in this!

I believe God is blessing our parish, making it fruitful because our heart and our soul are focused on serving Jesus, His son and our Lord. I'm happy to report that, with your generosity we were able to meet our goal for the 2025 Bishop's Ministries Appeal and achieve our Christmas offering goal of $70,000. Please join me in publicly thanking our Art & Environment Committee for the beautiful Christmas décor in our church. It takes a lot of time, talent, and labor to prepare our church’s liturgical environment throughout the year, but most especially during Christmas and Easter, and we are blessed to have an amazing team that keeps our church beautifully decorated. St. Bonaventure’s KofC Council 6038 is grateful for our supportive parish and your generosity, which helps us support various Faith In Action programs, e.g., protecting the unborn, offering winter coats to small children, providing wheelchairs to those in need, and supporting the disabled and youth in our community.
On January 31st, the council invites you to our annual Crab Feed.
Dinner tickets: Starting the weekend of January 3rd, dine-in or takeout tickets will be available--$75 each.

January Monthly Luncheon Happy New Year!
We will celebrate the new year with a tasty lunch on Thursday, January 15. This event will be catered by Mann’s Chinese Restaurant at 11:30 in the large hall. Along with the meal we will provide beverages and your choice of some fantastic desserts.
All is included for only $20 per person. Reservations with payment will be taken after Masses on January 10th and 11th and in the church office on Monday, January 12 until 4 PM. Come share fellowship with our St. Bonaventure Community!

Healing the Heart Sessions
For the months of December January and February on the 1st Tuesday of each month, there will be two sessions of “Ad-Lib” Healing the Heart, no registration needed, just come and be with us. The times are 11:00am to 12:30pm and in the evening 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Come to either, come to both, you are welcome, bring a friend if you would like.
Starting February 10th there will be a 6-week series of Healing the Heart, ending on March 17. This will be in the evening from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Registration is required. For more information send an email to Helene: fuzyfrank@aol.com

Walk for Life West Coast 2026
Join fellow Catholics and Pro‐Lifers from all over California and beyond as we stand up for the littlest among us at the 22nd Annual Walk for Life West Coast in San Francisco on January 24, 2026. There will be Mass at 9:30 am celebrated by Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The rally begins at 12:30 pm in San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza, and the Walk, down the city’s Market Street, begins at 1:30 pm. Our parish group will meet at the Concord BART Station at 11:00am and go together as a group from St Bonaventure. For more information visit www.walkforlifewc.com.

Our parish garden is over one acre beautiful and is cared for fully by volunteers. To ensure it continues to thrive we need help. Many hands make light work. Together, we can help maintain what God has blessed us with. You can come on Monday or Tuesday mornings and speak to a volunteer to learn how to help. Una mirada más ligera al nuevo año
Queridos feligreses, ¡bienvenidos al 2026! Quizás recuerden que la palabra «enero» tiene su origen en el nombre de un dios de dos cabezas de la antigua Roma. Una de las cabezas de Januarius mira hacia adelante y la otra hacia atrás. Al comenzar un nuevo año, es bueno tener en cuenta esta perspectiva hacia adelante y hacia atrás. Nos ayuda a aprender del pasado y a mirar hacia el futuro con, esperemos, mayor sabiduría, conocimiento y caridad.
El Señor nos acompaña en el camino hacia el futuro, sean cuales sean nuestras circunstancias. Lo que Él desea para nosotros no es otra cosa que la plenitud de la vida (Jn 10, 10). Seguir sus enseñanzas y compartir la gracia de los sacramentos de la Iglesia nos ayuda a alcanzar esta vida abundante. No es la «vida abundante»
de los glamurosos, los súper ricos o los
que están a la moda. Es más rica
porque está arraigada en el Dios de los siglos que nos creó y quiere lo mejor para nosotros.
Estemos preparados para explorar nuevos territorios en nuestro caminar con Jesús en este nuevo año. Recurramos al Señor, a Nuestra Señora y a los santos para que nos ayuden a deshacernos de las viejas y cansadas costumbres que ya no nos sirven. Felicítate por los pequeños pasos que has dado en la dirección correcta. No seas demasiado duro contigo mismo cuando retrocedas un poco. ¡Simplemente vuelve a intentarlo!
Resolvamos todos ser más amables en este nuevo año. ¡Parece que el Señor nos está dando más oportunidades que nunca para mostrar amabilidad! Cuando sintamos el impulso de enojarnos, intentemos contenernos. Cuando sintamos el impulso de hablar mal de los demás, intentemos guardar silencio o incluso decir una palabra de comprensión. Un poco de amabilidad en el nombre de Jesús tiene un gran impacto. ¡Oremos unos por otros en esto!

Almuerzo mensual de enero ¡Feliz Año Nuevo!
Celebraremos el nuevo año con un delicioso almuerzo el jueves 15 de enero. Este evento será organizado por el restaurante Mann's Chinese a las 11:30 a. m. en el salón grande. Junto con la comida, ofreceremos bebidas y una selección de fantásticos postres. Todo incluido por solo 20 dólares por persona. Las reservas con pago se aceptarán después de las misas del 10 y 11 de enero y en la oficina de la iglesia el lunes 12 de enero hasta las 4 de la tarde. ¡Venga a compartir la comunión con nuestra comunidad de San Buenaventura!

El Consejo 6038 de los Caballeros de Colón de St. Bonaventure le invita a participar en nuestra rifa especial de una impresionante pintura al óleo de 48”x30” de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, bellamente enmarcada a mano en pan de oro.
- Inicio de venta de boletos: Fin de semana del 10 de enero
- Fecha del sorteo: 31 de enero durante la Cena de Crab Feed (no es necesario estar presente para ganar)

Necesitamos manos en los jardines
La parroquia tiene más de un acre de hermosos jardines que están cuidado estrictamente por voluntarios. Para garantizar que los jardines de la iglesia sigan prosperando, necesitamos ayuda. Muchas manos hacen un trabajo ligero y juntos podemos ayudar a mantener la bendición que Dios nos ha dado. Puedes venir los lunes o martes por la mañana y hablar con uno de los voluntarios para ver donde puedes ayudar. Puedes establecer tu propio horario una vez que hayas sido entrenado por un voluntario. ● Laundry Help for Those in Need: We have a ministry that volunteers at a laundromat once a month. They do the laundry for those in need: those needing shelter, families who have fled their countries, day laborers and others living on the edge. We need more volunteers so we can help more people. We provide the quarters and the laundry soap, dryer sheets and bleach. But hands are needed.
If you want to support this ministry, you can make a monetary donation to St. Bonaventure Church with memo: Clean Start.
We volunteer on the fourth Saturday of the month. The laundromat is in Concord. We arrive at 8am and our last load goes in at 10am. To volunteer or ask any questions, please contact Norene Mason teammason@comcast.net.

Adoration & Friday Holy Hour
We offer Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament after 9:00am Mass in the Chapel. Monday through Thursday, Adoration continues for one hour after Mass. Friday Adoration continues until 8:00pm. The Friday Holy Hour beginning at 2:00pm includes the Rosary and the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy. Benediction takes place at 8:00pm.

Sacraments, Pastoral Counseling, and Staff Support
We're here for you! Our clergy and pastoral staff are available to help. We can offer pastoral counseling by appointment, over the phone or by videocall, and the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available in person when needed. Please call the parish office at (925) 672-5800 to make an appointment. We offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the church on Fridays at 8:00am and on Saturdays at 3:30pm.
The office is open for walk-up visits, Monday-Thursday 8:30am-4:30pm (closed for lunch 1-1:30pm), and Friday 8:30am-12:30pm. Staff are also available by appointment. Please call the main office number or call or email the staff person directly.
